I believe that the best treatment is integrated and holistic. I was formally trained as a psychoanalyst, but as the years went on I began to adopt theories and techniques from several schools: dialectical behavior therapy, mindfulness-based cognitive therapy, and existential therapy in particular. Far from being mutually exclusive, these distinct modalities were, and are, often complementary—and I have found that this conceptual synthesis increased the likelihood of successful treatment.
There is no “one size fits all” mode of treatment that works for absolutely everyone. Individuals are nuanced. Some lead with their thoughts, others with their feelings. Some people want brief treatment in order to resolve a specific issue, while others wish to take more time to examine their long-term patterns of behavior. I believe that the artifice of therapy needs to be personalized and tailored to each person.
Over the years, I have worked with people from many cultural and socioeconomic backgrounds. Whether in person or on the phone, I can provide brief treatment as well as more in-depth psychotherapy.
